How to Take Snapshot on VLC Media Player

• Some frame in a video is so interesting or beautiful that you want to save them as a image file for storage or sharing. And you are wondering how to take a snapshot from a media video using VLC media player. This recipe will tell you the answer.

• Open VLC media player.

• 

• From the main menu, go to Tools -> Preferences to open the Preferences settings dialog box.

• 

• In the Preferences dialog box, click on the Video button. Under Video snapshots section, choose a directory for saving the snapshots, then set a prefix, check the Sequential numberingcheckbox and choose a out format. The default format is PNG. Click the save button to close the dialog box.

• On the main menu bar, go to View -> Advanced Controls. Then the snapshot button appears on the playback bar.
• 

• To take the snapshot while playing a video, go to Video -> Snapshot or click on the snapshot button on the playback bar. Alternatively, you can use the hotkey [Shift + S].
